"TRIBOLOGIJA"
The Lithuanian Scientific Society Department (LSSD) "Tribologija" (Tribology) is nongovernmental non-profit organisation joining Lithuanian scientists who are working in the field of tribology. Main tribological research in Lithuania occur in universities (Lithuanian University of Agriculture (LZUU), Kaunas Technological University (KTU), Vilnius Technical University (VTU)) and governmental research institutes (Institutes of Lithuanian Academy of Science for Physics (IPh), for Chemics (ICh), for Energetics (IE)). LSSD "Tribologija" was founded by joining Lithuanian scientists into the only society in such field. The establishing conference was held at 27 04 1995, electing the organisation board and its chairman - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juozas Padgurskas from LUA.
Scientist who are members of LSSD "Tribologija" are working in the following research areas:
- Creation, research and usage of new tribomaterials, coating and surface strengthening technologies for increasing the machinery reliability;
- Research of unwear effect and tribomaterials who realise this effect;
- Usage of tribomaterials for friction losses and environmental pollution;
- Research and simulation of tribological processes in friction pair.
Main tribological research projects and foreign cooperation of Lithuanian scientists are:
- LUA and Hamburg-Harburg Technical University (Germany) scientifical cooperation project "Increasing the longevity and friction minimisation of friction pair seal - shaft using nanoparticles and metallpolimerical materials";
- LUA and the Institute for Physics of Moldavian Academy of Science are collaborating in field of creation and research of electrosparking deposition coats;
- LUA and KTU scientists are researching the nonabrazive antifriction finish-processing and its usage for machine parts;
- LUA and ICh collaboration in creation and research of galvanic coats for increasing the tribological reliability of friction pairs;
- LUA, KTU and ICh, together with Russian scientists, have a common research in the "Improvement of tribological properties of metallorganic additives for oil";
- LUA, KTU and IPh are working on the adaptation of computerised laser for increasing the tribological reliability of wear surfaces;
- LUA and KTU collaborate in the creation and research of tribological coats made with electroimpulse technology;
- KTU and Rome University (Italy) carry-out researching of the wear of friction surfaces;
- KTU and Zwickau Technical Highschool (Germany) have a common project in the research of surfaces fracture mechanics;
- KTU and Poznan Technical University (Poland) are cooperating in research the tribological properties of surfaces;
- KTU and Riga Technical University (Latvia) have a research project "Improvement in the methodology of surface roughness measurement and design of various tribopairs";
- KTU and IE collaborate in the creation of a new plasma-deposition coats, etc.
LSSD "Tribologija", as an independent and legal person, has already prepared contracts with governmental organisations and private enterprises for carrying out of tribological research.
LSSD "Tribologija", as an organisation which represent Lithuanian scientists who are working in the field of tribology, is accepted as the member of the International Tribology Council.

„Tribologija" together with Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Lithuanian University of Agriculture, Kaunas University of Technology and National Committee
of IFToMM organised the international tribological conferences BALTTRIB' 99 and BALTTRIB' 2005 which held in Kaunas,
Lithuania in 1999 and 2005.
The Lithuanian Scientific Society Department „Tribologija" together with Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian University of Agriculture, Association of Baltic Materials Societies, Lithuanian Materials Research Society and Lithuanian Foundries Association is organised the international conference MATERIALS ENGINEERING & TRIBOLOGY- 2002, which held in Kaunas, Lithuania, 14 – 15 November 2002.
